The Council of Nine

Beyond the physical universe — operating through the galactic fieldEvolutionary oversight and spiritual governance of Earth and this solar system

Overview

The Council of Nine, sometimes called simply "The Nine," is among the most mysterious and debated of all cosmic councils in the channelled literature. They identify themselves as nine aspects of one consciousness — a unified intelligence that holds responsibility for overseeing the evolutionary development of this solar system and, by extension, Earth. Unlike the stellar councils of this collection, the Nine do not present as a civilisation or an alliance: they describe themselves as something prior to civilisation altogether.

Few sources in the contact tradition have attracted such intense interest, scholarship, and controversy.

Nature of the Nine

The Nine describe themselves as neither physical nor as beings in any conventional sense, but as aspects of the original creative force — pure consciousness that holds the pattern of possibility for all evolving life in this region of existence. In their transmissions, the number nine is not a count of persons but a structure of completeness: nine principles or facets through which the one consciousness administers its trust.

The literature wrestles visibly with this ontology. The Nine speak as "we," answer as one, and decline every attempt to place them within a hierarchy of beings, locating themselves instead at the boundary where being shades into source. Some traditions identify them with the Ennead of ancient Egypt — the nine great principles of Heliopolitan cosmology — reading Egyptian religion as an early reception of the same intelligence.

Contact History

The Nine first made organised contact with human researchers through the work of Andrija Puharich, the physician and parapsychologist whose investigations began in the 1950s with the medium Dr. D.G. Vinod. The contact matured in the 1970s through the channel known as "Tom," with a circle that included Phyllis V. Schlemmer, whose book The Only Planet of Choice remains the principal published record of the transmissions.

The material describes the Nine as having seeded consciousness on Earth long before recorded history, and as returning to communication at the approach of the planet's decisive era. The sessions produced a sprawling account of cosmic history, the origins of humanity, and Earth's unique position — delivered in the Nine's characteristic register: formal, patient, and unsettlingly self-consistent across decades.

The Only Planet of Choice

The teaching for which the Nine are best known gives Schlemmer's book its title: Earth, they state, is the only planet of choice — a world of uniquely unconstrained free will, where consciousness may turn toward any possibility without cosmic prevention. Other worlds evolve along channelled paths; Earth's gift and burden is the open field. This, in the Nine's account, is why the planet is at once so troubled and so precious: it is the universe's experiment in full freedom, and its harvest — whatever humanity chooses — instructs the whole.

The corollary is responsibility. The Nine consistently decline to predict or direct, returning every question of outcome to the questioner: on the planet of choice, the choosing is the point.

Teachings and Transmissions

Beyond the doctrine of choice, the Nine's material covers the seeding of Earth by civilisations they call the twenty-four, the long entanglement of the planet's history with interventions both luminous and predatory, and the mechanics by which consciousness densifies into matter and returns. Their tone is unlike any other source in the literature — neither warm nor cold, but exact: the voice of something for which love is a structural fact rather than a feeling.

Relationship to Other Councils

The Nine stand apart from, and in some accounts above, the galactic governance structure described elsewhere in this collection. The stellar councils administer civilisations; the Nine hold the pattern within which administration occurs. The literature places them in closest relation to the other trans-physical bodies — The Cosmic Council and The Council of Elders — and describes The Council of Saturn as the solar system's operational expression of their oversight. The Ra material, transmitted by The Ra Collective, names the Council of Nine directly, weaving the two sources into a single cosmological frame.

Role in Earth's Awakening

In the tradition's account, the Nine hold Earth's possibility itself — the open pattern that makes the planet's freedom real. They do not guide the awakening; they guarantee that it remains a choice. Their watch concludes, the transmissions imply, when the planet of choice finally chooses — and in choosing, shows the universe what unconstrained consciousness, left genuinely free, will do.
